Nature

Why is spending time outdoors in nature so important?
Trees, birds, insects, plants, flowers, bees...just a few of the incredible living things that we call 'nature'.
Nature is essential in our lives, not only for the air that we breath or the food that we eat, but also for our physical and mental wellbeing.
When was the last time you took a short walk and actually noticed the birds singing, the bees buzzing and the colours of the changing seasons? It can be so easy to focus entirely on where we are going and the thoughts inside our head that we actually forget to enjoy the process and notice all of the remarkable things around us.
Research shows that spending just 20 minutes outdoors per day can significantly improve our wellbeing. This doesn't mean you have to climb a mountain or travel to an idyllic destination...it can be as simple as sitting outside in the garden, or taking a walk around the block.
Set yourself mini 'notice nature' challenges
Next time you go for a short walk, why not try and set yourself mini challenges to keep your mind focused and help you pay attention to what is around you?
How many birds do you see flying above you?
How many different types of bird song can you hear?
Can you spot a sign of the new season coming? (Spotting a daffodil or noticing the reddening leaves)
How many different flower species do you see? (You don't have to know exactly what species they are, just notice their differences)
Make the most of nature
We are very lucky to live in a world with such incredible plants, trees, animals and creatures. Let's make the most of it and spend as much time as we can exploring the outdoors and making ourselves feel better at the same time.
